Bad Things That Happen to Good People

Back in July, the 26th to be exact, Micah and I had dinner plans or so we thought. While leaving his home, Micah realized that the shed at the top of the driveway was open and upon further inspection a number of items were missing. That's right folks, Micah and his wonderful family had been unfortunate and lost some hard earned things.

I am not going to lie, when he shared this with me I could not help but think "why do bad things happen to good people?". I mean honestly, Micah lost almost all of his snowboarding gear (they ironically left the snowboard...) and some other items of his family. Things that were saved up for and earned, where was all the good karma for these good people?

I spent the drive up to his house reflecting on my own misfortunes this year when I realized something. Well not realized, more like remembered. Karma takes different shapes and forms, we just need to change our perspective to see it. I personally am so lucky for the love that surrounds me. I have a great, healthy relationship and I have an amazing support system from family as well as friends. If you are reading this right now, you are blessed with enough comfort to afford a phone or computer along with internet.

I am sure that there are a lot of other things in our lives that we, as humans, take for granted as well. Which is why I wanted to share this with you, my butterflies. Be thankful for what life throws at you. Sure, it sucks when it is bad. Sometimes, like in Houston right now, it can actually be awful. But if we truly count our blessings more than our misfortunes, I am sure that things will look brighter. In light of what happened to Micah and his family on July 26, we came across a sweetheart of a pup and have since adopted her. Had we not been up at the top of his driveway at that time, who knows what would have happened to her on that busy road.

So with that, I DARE you. I triple dog dare you to look on the surface and look deep, for those wonderful things in your life. Big or small, they are what matter.
