Why You Should Support Your Friends And Shop Small
It is also important to note that Shelby is an Independent Lifestyle Consultant with Arbonne International and does received a commission off any purchases that are made through her link.
Damn, I have some hella creative and motivated friends. Every direction I look, I see passions being pursued and it is an incredible thing to witness. In my opinion, besides experiencing life itself, one of the best parts of growing up is watching my sweet friends’ dreams take form. Like that the magic-making soul behind the camera – Alyssa McAlinden.
“When you buy from a small business an actual person does a little happy dance”
This honestly could not be more true and speaking from personal experience, supporting small makes a bigger difference than you may know. Whether you are giving a shout out in an Instagram story or you are making a purchase online, you are helping the lights stay on in some shape or form.
And what is even better? You actually see the impact you are making, even if it is as simple as a referral. If you get something from a big department store like Target, that money kind of disappears. You know it is going somewhere and to someone, but you can’t exactly track it. When you support a small business, especially a local one, you see that person out in the community and that is a gratifying experience in itself.
Not everyone may be a creative soul, but I know each of you dream to own your life and live it the way you choose. The entrepreneur path can be different for everyone but it really isn’t as far away from reality as one might think. There are many preconceived notions about Network Marketing and the people who choose this nontraditional path, but really it is not much different than any other small business. While a Network Marketing professional may have the advantage of a stocked “shop”, they are still small and there is still a little happy dance at the end of each checkout. And my favorite part is that almost anyone can do it, even from the comfort of their cubicle.
While I understand where these assumptions about the Multi-Level Marketing industry come from, the funny thing is we are all actually "selling" something and most of the time we don’t even know it. When you find a new restaurant that you enjoy, you are most likely going to share it with those in your circle. In that moment, you just did what a Network Marketing professional does for a living – share a find with those you love. The only difference? You didn’t get paid for it. I understand that not everyone is passionate about protein shakes, but when you are marketing for big companies (like the one with the red bullseye) without getting compensation for it…well that is practically a crime in my eyes.
If you, my butterflies, get anything from this post, it is to be a little more conscious. We are quick to shop at the departments and we are quick to purchase from celebrities. But we are sometimes hesitant to support our friends and shop with them. So get that island-inspired tee and custom decorate your home because well why wouldn't you want to help someone, especially someone you know, put food on the table while living out their passion?
To my fellow creatives with their own bossy pants on, keep hustling. The entrepreneur life is a hard one at times, but there is nothing like feeling of owning your life instead of it owning you. And to those in the stands cheering us on, just know that when you make the conscious decision to support us we are ever grateful.
